The very good friend who is leaving?
There are many friends who have been here and left again, it is a part of expat life. I do have great German friends too, though, people with friends and family here, people who will not leave, so I don't worry that I'll all of a sudden be out of options. And there are new people coming in all the time as well. Plus it is nice to have people all over the world to visit - so there are really good sides to it too.
And it is very easy to stay in touch with people nowadays: Social networks, Skype, various chats, webcams, Facetime, photo sharing sites, plus the mere fact that it is easy to travel (sorry carbon footprint, but I try to keep my consumption down in other ways and I do take the train when I can and every day to work) and both travel and phone calls have gone down so much in price over the years.
Perhaps someone can invent virtual meals?
Oh well, but we had a great leaving-do, a leaving party. Always something, right?
And now I have to start planning for other trips around the world - Italy soon, US, Asia, other European destinations, and of course, up to Sweden at some point, for a weekend.
