On a regular basis there are rumours circulating that Facebook are going to start charging for their service. Well, this screenshot is from this week, and I will hold it against them if they change their minds and start charging.
Wouldn't surprise me if they started to charge for certain services some time, but that is a different story, I guess.

They would die very fast if they started charging for their service. So they are very aware of that they can't start charging.
I haven't seen any rumours about them charging that hasn't started in some sort of spam, chain letter or bogus Facebook group...
Absolutely, Dan, so far the rumours have all been silly rumours that have circulated. Next time I will just point people to the first page (or here). But Ning for example are starting to charge for certain services and I wouldn't be surprised if that is the way more social networks will go in the future, if it is successful. Typical is that it is the organisers that are charged though, not the users.
